Vishay’s New IHLP1212: The Size of a Tic-Tac, the Guts of a Power House

Space is the new currency in power electronics, and Vishay just minted a small fortune. Their new IHLP1212-EZ-1Z series crams up to 14.3A of saturation current into a 3×3mm footprint with a max profile of just 2.0mm. That’s smaller than a standard Tic-Tac candy, and it doesn’t even break a sweat.

The secret sauce is a powdered iron body that fully encapsulates the windings, eliminating air gaps and providing magnetic shielding. This does two things: it reduces crosstalk with neighboring components, and it gives the inductor serious resistance to thermal shock, moisture, and mechanical stress. All of which matters enormously when you’re designing for industrial, medical, or telecom environments where things get rough.

The series launches with 24 variants spanning 0.22µH to 3.3µH, DC resistance from 8.6mΩ to 50.4mΩ, and operating temperatures from -55°C to +125°C. Samples and production quantities are available with a 10-week lead time.

The real story here isn’t just the dimensions it’s that engineers no longer have to choose between board space and performance. The IHLP1212-EZ-1Z is proof that “compact” and “capable” aren’t mutually exclusive adjectives.
